Recently, I found an very interesting game for those interested in learning languages or at least recognising them. I found it when going through my typical content to post on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Google+. I decided to test it out for myself a few times to get a feel for what the game was all about. You can play it here: The Great Language Game
Basically it’s a quiz-like game that plays individual audio clips while giving you a selection of choices to pick from. The number of choices increases as the game progresses. However, you only get 3 wrong answers (or “lives”) before you lose the game.
How Can This Game Benefit Me With Learning Languages?
Learning to recognise different languages by how they sound could potentially motivate you to learn a language that sounds pleasant to you. If you are learning multiple languages like me then it will give you the opportunity to have an “a-ha” moment when playing this game. It could also determine whether or not your listening comprehension in the target language needs improvement.
Check out my latest video demonstrating a walk-through of this game. Now I have to admit that this is possibly the lowest score I’ve gotten on this game. But I wanted to make people aware of this amazing game. So I finally went ahead an made another video using Bandicam (I know! It’s not the best quality out there but this what I must use for now. I’ll replace it for a better screen recorder later. )
Feel free to play this game for yourself and leave a comment on my YouTube channel with the score you got. Come on! It will be fun (especially if you’re passionate about learning languages! 🙂 ) I’m sure a lot of you will get a much higher score than I did.
If you want to see this game played more in depth, be sure to check out Laoshu’s video.
He was definitely able to recognise more language than I was. But maybe it’s because he’s studied a lot more languages than I have. If you’re looking for a great method for learning languages, check out his website: Road Running Language Camp for more insightful ways to learn languages.
What do you think of the Great Language Game? What was your score? How many languages did you recognise? Feel free to share you results in the comments! 🙂
